Omega Seamaster Green

Omega Seamaster Green Calendar Automatic – 1959 – Ref. 2849 – 34mm

£1,495

A beautifully presented example of one of Omega’s classic late-1950s Seamaster designs, this Omega Seamaster Green Calendar dates to circa 1959 and combines genuine vintage character with a striking, freshly restored appearance.

The watch is housed in a 34mm stainless-steel case, a traditional and wonderfully wearable size for the period. Its standout feature is undoubtedly the professionally refurbished green dial, which gives this nearly 70-year-old Omega a completely fresh lease of life.

The rich green finish is complemented by applied baton hour markers, silver-tone hands and the famous Omega signature, while the elegant Seamaster Calendar script sits above six o’clock. At three o’clock is the practical date window – a simple but genuinely useful complication that makes the watch particularly suited to regular wear rather than being purely a collector’s piece.

Powered by Omega Calibre 503

Inside is Omega’s Calibre 503 automatic movement, a 20-jewel self-winding calibre from one of the great periods of Omega watchmaking.

The movement serial number begins 17.1 million, dating the watch to approximately 1959, placing it firmly within the golden era of mechanical Swiss watchmaking.

The inside caseback is correctly marked Omega Watch Co., Swiss, together with the 2849 reference and Omega branding.

Classic Seamaster Design

The stainless-steel case features the beautifully shaped lugs associated with Seamasters of this period, while the caseback carries the instantly recognisable Omega Seamaster hippocampus medallion.

Following refurbishment, the watch presents in superb overall condition, with the green dial and polished stainless-steel case creating a particularly attractive combination. It has the appearance of a much younger watch while retaining the mechanical heart and unmistakable design of an original 1950s Omega.

We’ve paired it with a new tan/brown leather strap, which works particularly well against the green dial. The strap measures 18mm at the lugs.

The watch is photographed/modelled on a 17.5cm wrist to provide an accurate indication of its proportions when worn.

Why We Like It

Vintage Omega remains one of the most accessible ways of owning a genuinely important piece of Swiss watchmaking history.

At almost 70 years old, this Seamaster comes from an era when Omega was producing some of the finest mass-produced mechanical movements in Switzerland. The combination of the Calibre 503 automatic movement, useful calendar complication, classic 34mm proportions and distinctive green dial makes this a watch with considerably more personality than a modern mass-produced dress watch.

It is equally at home as an entry into vintage Omega collecting or as something a little different to wear regularly.
