Omega Seamaster 1959

Omega Seamaster 1959 Mechanical Watch Ref. 14390-2 SC – Box & Papers

£1,995

An exceptionally attractive vintage Omega Seamaster, believed to date to approximately 1959 and offered with an unusually comprehensive collection of period accessories.

The movement serial number begins 17.5 million, placing its production at approximately 1959. Inside is Omega’s respected calibre 285, a 17-jewel hand-wound mechanical movement from the famous Omega 30mm movement family. Renowned for its straightforward, robust construction, the calibre 285 remains highly regarded by collectors and watchmakers alike.

The classically proportioned case measures approximately 35mm excluding the crown and features a gold-plated upper case with a stainless-steel screw-down case back. Its silver-toned dial is finished with applied baton hour markers, elegant dauphine-style hands, a central seconds hand and the traditional scripted Seamaster signature.

The watch is presented in very good overall condition for its age. The movement is exceptionally clean, as shown in our photographs, while an old watchmaker’s service sticker remains on the outside of the case back. We have deliberately left this in place as part of the watch’s history and provenance.

A Remarkably Collector’s Set

It is particularly rare to find a vintage Seamaster of this age accompanied by such an extensive group of period accessories.

The watch is supplied with:

  • Omega presentation box and outer box
  • Period Omega international guarantee paperwork, which remains blank
  • Period Japanese retailer documentation
  • Original matching-number Omega swing tag
  • Original brown Omega leather strap
  • Original Omega-signed buckle
  • Additional aftermarket black leather strap

Importantly, the reference and movement number recorded on the swing tag correspond with the watch. Although the international guarantee was never completed and must therefore be described as blank paperwork rather than completed original papers, the complete package offers considerably more provenance than is normally encountered with a watch approaching 70 years old.

The original brown Omega leather strap shows expected age and wear but remains usable. We felt it was important to retain it with the watch, together with its original Omega buckle. An aftermarket black leather strap will also be included, allowing the new owner to preserve the original strap if preferred.

The watch has been photographed on a 17.5cm wrist.

Please remember that this is a vintage mechanical watch approaching 70 years of age. It must be wound manually before use and should not be expected to perform with the precision of a modern quartz watch. Water resistance is not guaranteed, and the watch should be kept completely away from water and moisture.
