Why is it called the “Seamaster 600”?

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding this model is that the “600” refers to 600 metres of water resistance. It doesn’t.

The Seamaster 600 was introduced by Omega during the 1960s as part of its elegant dress-watch collection. The “600” designation actually relates to the 600-series family of hand-wound movements that powered these watches, including the Calibres 601, 611 and 613. It was simply Omega’s way of identifying the movement family rather than indicating diving capability. Although it carries the famous Seamaster name, this model was designed as a refined, water-resistant dress watch for everyday wear rather than as a professional dive watch.
